Lungs

Fly with lungs

Insects breathe by a process called diffusion. They absorb oxygen through tiny holes in their bodies. Diffusion is only efficient at small distances. This means that flies can only grow to a limited size.

But if they ever develop lungs…

The Emerald

Twin stars circling around each other; one blue, one yellow.

Professor Goethe nearly fell of his stool. It was supposed to be impossible, but here it was, a green star of all things!

He steadied himself, rebalanced his spectacles on his nose, and looked again to be sure.

Bah, upon closer inspection, it was just a binary system, with a blue giant hiding sheepishly behind a yellow sun.
